In case there was any doubt, MSAC condemns CrossFit founder Greg Glassman’s recent comments and actions. There is no room for intolerance in our community. While we understand one individual does not represent CrossFit as a community, we can not stand beside a company whose ownership does not reflect our values.
MSAC has always been an inclusive fitness community where anyone can walk through our doors to enjoy a place to work out and feel safe. We will continue to be this place for people regardless of race, gender, identity or beliefs.
Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin and what to say.
The range of emotions that we as owners and coaches have felt over the last week and will continue to feel for the future have been overwhelming and exhausting.
We do know certain things.
We know that we have dedicated a tremendous part of our lives to CrossFit, the community and fitness. We know that CrossFit has brought us together and improved and touched our lives in many ways. We know we are hurt and saddened by the recent events that have happened in the CrossFit community. We know that people are not perfect. We know that people make mistakes. We know the ramifications both good and bad of leaving the CrossFit brand. We know our decision will not please everyone and we may lose members over this but we hope we do not.
We hope that CrossFit HQ will take this opportunity under their new leadership and be able to improve their culture and to also heal the community.
That being said, it is the choice of CFMS ownership and coaches together, that we will not continue our affiliation with CrossFit as long as Greg Glassman retains his 100% ownership.
What does that mean for us and for our community? We lose the CrossFit name and potential access to the direct CF community. But the community is more than CF and we will find ways to make sure that it isn’t lost forever. We have always done our own programming and that will continue. Our amazing coaches will still be here to guide you through workouts and we still have our community. Nothing has changed in terms of that. Your membership with us will continue for as long as you want it to.
We are paying attention to everything that is going on with affiliates and the community and any new changes or opportunities will be discussed.
Since we opened in 2011, CFMS has always been an inclusive fitness community where anyone can walk through our doors to enjoy a place to work out and feel safe. We will continue to be this place for people regardless of race, gender, identity or beliefs.
We will do this together.
